HOUSEFED is the apex institution for cooperative housing in Assam — financing member societies, building affordable homes, and delivering construction works for State and Central Government departments.
Part of India's cooperative housing movement, rooted in Assam
HOUSEFED was established on 27th March 1978 as the Assam State Co-operative Housing Finance Society Ltd., registered under the Assam Co-operative Societies Act, 1949. It was renamed the Assam State Co-operative Housing Federation Ltd. on 22nd June 2005.
Headquartered at Guwahati, HOUSEFED operates under the Cooperation Department, Government of Assam, and has functioned as the state's apex cooperative housing institution since 1979–80.
It is affiliated to the National Co-operative Housing Federation of India (NCHF), New Delhi, and its Chairman sits on the NCHF Board of Directors and General Council.
